Mt. Kailash (6,638 m/ 21,778 ft) is the most sacred mountain in Asia making it an ultimate pilgrimage destination. It is believed to be the physical embodiment of the mythical Mt Meru, which is said to be the center of the universe or ‘navel of the world’. Mt. Kailash is revered sacred by people of mainly 4 religions; to Hindus, Kailash is the abode of Shiva and nearby Manasarobar Lake is the means or soul of Brahma. Tibetans call Kailas Kang Rimpoche meaning; ‘Precious Snow Mountain. Jains worship it as Mt Ashtapada, the peak from which the religion’s founder, Rishabanatha, achieved spiritual liberation. Followers of Bon-Po, the ancient pre- Buddhist shamanistic religion of Tibet, refer it as the soul of Tibet. The Kailash circuit is an approximate of 55 kms which is completed in 3 days.

Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu 4,383 feet / 1,336 meters

Representative from EWT will receive you at the airport and take you to the hotel.

Day 2
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

We will visit a UNESCO Heritage site; Boudhanath Stupa, which lies approximately 6 km north east from central Kathmandu, which was probably built in the 14th century. Located at the valley floor, Boudhanath Stupa is considered a jewel point in the center of a natural mandala, a store of sacred energy. Today it remains an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists and local Nepalis, as well as a popular tourist site. The site was damaged in the 2015 earthquake. Thanks to the united efforts of the community, it has been restored to its full glory. We will have lunch at one of the restaurants overlooking the scenic stupa site.

In the afternoon we will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, also a UNESCO Heritage site. It is a famous and sacred Hindu temple located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Non Hindus are restricted from entering the main temple and so will be going around the cremation spot. You can see the richly ornamented pagoda house with the sacred linga or holy symbol of Lord Shiva.

In the evening pack and get ready for the trek tomorrow. Pack a bag you need for the trek and you can leave the rest at the hotel/ EWT office.

Day 4: Nepalgunj- Hilsa & Heli ride from Hilsa to Simikot

Day 5: Acclimatization at Simikot

Day 6: Drive to Mansarovar

Day 7: Drive to Yam Dwar and trek to Dirapuk

Day 8: Trek to Zutulpuk

Day 9
Day 9: Trek to Darchen and drive to Taklakot/ Hilsa

Day 10: Heli ride back to Nepalgunj
