Located at the valley floor, Boudhanath Stupa is considered a jewel point in the center of a natural mandala, a store of sacred energy. Today it remains an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists and local Nepalis, as well as a popular tourist site. The site was damaged in the 2015 earthquake. Thanks to the united efforts of the community, it has been restored to its full glory. We will have lunch at one of the restaurants overlooking the scenic stupa site.
In the afternoon we will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, also a UNESCO Heritage site. It is a famous and sacred Hindu temple located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Non Hindus are restricted from entering the main temple and so will be going around the cremation spot. After breakfast, we will visit Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, resting on a hillock 3 km west of Kathmandu. The site is famous for a panoramic view of the city and a hallmark of faith and harmony for centuries. The stupa had been affected by the earthquake and reconstruction is still in progress. However, the main stupa remains intact. Swayambhunath is one of the holiest Buddhist Chaityas in Nepal. Legends claim that it evolved spontaneously when the valley was created out of a primordial lake more than 2,000 years ago. This stupa is the oldest of its kind in Nepal and has numerous shrines and monasteries on its premises.
