It is a 7-8 hour drive by road and a 30 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa airport. It takes around 30-45 minutes’ to drive from the airport to Lumbini.
Lumbini is the birthplace of Buddha and is a pilgrimage destination for Buddhists and seekers of peace. Mayadevi Temple is the most sacred site in the Lumbini garden where one can sight the exact spot where Lord Buddha was born with the holy pond and the Ashoka pillar next to the temple.
One can visit over twenty five Buddhist monasteries built by diverse countries within the garden and admire the spectacular diverse architecture of each country. One can also indulge in meditation in one of the monasteries and interact with the local Lamas or nuns.
The Lumbini garden covers an area of 2.56 sq km and includes three zones each covering one square mile inter connected with walking roads and a canal.
